Rainford had mixed Bank Holiday fortunes losing their opening League encounter at Newton Le Willows before bouncing back on Monday with a resounding win at Wigan to finish top of their knockout cup group.

Rainford lost a competitive encounter at Highfield by three wickets in the second series of Ray Digman Cup group games. Batting first they posted 187 for 7 with contributions from Mark Brook (25) Joe Noctor (39) Stuart Benzies (39) and Ollie Jump (31). Noctor and Jump put on 54 for the fifth wicket to boost the total which ultimately needed someone to go on and make a big score.

Amidst the festive excitement and despite the wintry weather, cricketers from all parts of St Helens have started to think about the season ahead with the recent publication of next season’s fixtures. Newton le Willows, Rainhill and Rainford will all be competing in Division 1 of the Bridging Finance Solutions Liverpool and District Cricket Competition, with St Helens Town and Sutton battling it out in Division 2.
