RAINFORD made certain of their continued future in the Med Imaging Liverpool and District Cricket Competition Division 1 with a 67 run victory at Northop Hall. After a poor run of form they have put it together to achieve the last two wins that will enable the club to start planning for next season in some comfort.

RAINHILL couldn’t finish off the Welsh visitors from Colwyn Bay in the Med Imaging Liverpool 1st Division match and had to settle for a draw. Rainhill elected to bat and after losing an early wicket, Brown (45) joined Atkinson (53) and their 92 run partnership laid the foundation for the Rainhill declaration.

Rainford finally delivered the sort of performance they have been promising all season and returned from Merseyside’s Cricket HQ, Aigburth, with a convincing win. A fine all round performance brought an eight wicket win which could now set them up for the rest of their season.

Rainford had mixed Bank Holiday fortunes losing their opening League encounter at Newton Le Willows before bouncing back on Monday with a resounding win at Wigan to finish top of their knockout cup group.

Rainford lost a competitive encounter at Highfield by three wickets in the second series of Ray Digman Cup group games. Batting first they posted 187 for 7 with contributions from Mark Brook (25) Joe Noctor (39) Stuart Benzies (39) and Ollie Jump (31). Noctor and Jump put on 54 for the fifth wicket to boost the total which ultimately needed someone to go on and make a big score.

Rainhill 1st vs Alder 1st: Already relegated Alder elected to bat and got off to a decent start. With Rainhill needing 25 points for a chance of promotion the pressure was evident. As Alder had nothing to lose, they played with a freedom that was to be their downfall. Qureshi 4 for 36, Dale 3 for 36 and Williams 3 for 17 kept the visitors to 120 all out off 44. Only Singh (42) showing any patience.

Rainford kept their Liverpool Competition Premier League survival hopes alive with a stunning victory over local rivals Ormskirk. Winless this season and at the foot of the table, Rainford pulled off a magnificent six wicket win to take the relegation battle to the very last week.

Rainford travelled to Hightown on Saturday for a match crucial to both club’s fortunes in the current three-way Premier Division relegation battle being fought out with Colwyn Bay. They returned with honours even after six and a half hours of enthralling cricket ending in an enforced stalemate due to heavy rain. Chasing Hightown’s score of 195, Rainford’s pursuit was ended with the score on 169 for 9 with just four overs to go.
