RAINHILL suffered a miserable day in the Love Lane Liverpool Competition Premier League as they were thrashed by 142 runs at home to Northern.

Tyler McGladdery punished his former club with 79 with Liam Grey adding an unbeaten 58 as the visitors decked on 220 for five. Paul Ford's 30 was the only bright spot as Tom Sephton took 4-37 to help dimiss Rainhill for 78.

Rainford suffered a similar result at the hands of Ormskirk as Lancashire's George Lavelle struck 137 out of a total of 220 for seven. Josh Procter (3-46) and Andrew Davies (3-49) but the hosts could only manage 118 in reply. 

Caldy suffered a crushing defeat at Newton le Willows in Division One after unbeaten centuries from Ben Walkden (103no) and Tom Aspinwall (113no) allowed the hosts to declare on 247 for two off 43 overs. Ahmad Safi Abdullah (6-18) and Jack Morely (3-13) skittled the visitors for just 45 in a 202 run defeat.

Lytham’s Richard Staines made 115 in a 122-run win over St Helens Town, both sides playing their first game of the season. Callum Hewitt's 4-66 was the only real highlight for Town who were bowled out for 123 with Ben Gaskell (33) top scoring. 

In Division Two, Sutton got their first win of the season with a fine victory at Hightown St Mary's. The hosts had declared on 221 for six but an opening partnership of 131 between Jack York (79) and Joe Smith (47) set the visitors on their way to a six wicket triumph. 

The opening week of the Southport and District League saw Prescott and Odyssey get off to a winning start with a three wicket win over Merseyside Commonwealth Conference who were bowled out for 120 at Burrows Lane. Nathan Dagnell (4-12) and Sanjo Varghese (3-25) did the damage with the ball before Sriram Sridhar (54) excelled with the bat. 

Earlestown's game at Hesketh Bank was abandoned without a ball being bowled while in Division Two Haydock were bowled ou for just 44 by Dalton who recorded a seven wicket victory.
