Sixth Form

Rainford Sixth Form is the Post 16 provision of Rainford High Technology College. We are housed in a newly refurbished purpose built unit with its own communal dining room, hi-tech study area, and classroom facilities as well as a resource centre and a student common room. The College provides for approximately 300 students – large enough to facilitate a broad range of subjects yet still ensure that all students are known as individuals and are personally supported.

As current Year 10 and Year 11 students begin to make influential decisions about their future, one of the most important for those wishing to continue into further education will be as to which College you will chose to attend. Throughout your time spent at your further education institute, you will grow and mature as a person and prepare yourself for adult life, so your choice of college and A-levels are imperative. This decision is very personal to you, but as a College we feel that we can cater to all your further education needs and get you ready for your life after College whether that be in employment, an apprenticeship or University.

Ethos

Our ethos is based on mutual respect and a determination to provide the best possible opportunities for young people so that they thrive, develop and quickly move on to their chosen next stage.

  • We are a comprehensive College
  • We have young people of outstanding ability and have great success in applications for Oxford and Cambridge
  • We have many students who go on to study Medicine and other highly competitive courses at top universities
  • We are also an extremely effective College in terms of Advanced level students for whom the acquiring of pass grades is going to need a considerable amount of work and support
  • All our students are equally valued, supported and encouraged
Students work in partnership with the College Team where as young adults, they are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning

Enrichment

Getting into University is no longer based solely upon the grades you receive on the fateful results day in August, there is much more you now have to do to attend the University of your dreams. A big part of your University application is likely to be down to your enrichment activities - these are optional activities that you take part in outside of your chosen studies. As a College we understand that fitting in extra activites can be difficult so we make enrichment as easy as possible to help you become a well rounded student for your UCAS application.

Enrichment can consist of anything that you wish to partake in from Sports to Art to Music; you have the options to do whatever you please. Your timetable will allocate certain times for enrichment which means that if you choose to take part in something as a group you all have the same allotted time during College hours. This designated period is usually every Tuesday afternoon. Some examples of different types of enrichment which you can take part in would be the college council, social committee, college radio station, Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, lower school mentoring and gym classes. Being a compact College boasting excellent personal support, we try our best to meet everybody’s enrichment needs and have excellent links with local organisations to provide countless opportunites.

As a College we can help to make the enrichment process as problem free as possible and help you transcend seamlessly from your school life to your life as a college student.
