A POLICE cordon has been put in place around a house in Parr this afternoon.

Police were alerted to an incident on Derbyshire Hill Road in Parr at around 11.55am today (Monday, February 19).

Officers say that a man was taken to hospital for a serious facial injury, where he remains in a "serious but stable condition".

Eye witnesses reported seeing at least three police vehicles at the cordoned scene this afternoon, although officers have said they are at the "very early stages" of their investigation.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that officers are currently in St Helens following an incident earlier today, Monday 19 February.

"At around 11.55am, it was reported that a man was injured in Derbyshire Hill Road.

"Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital for treatment to a facial injury. He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

"We are in the very early stages of investigating the circumstances of this incident and enquiries are ongoing to establish how he sustained the injury.
