IT looks like David Cameron is to announce 50 new peers who will be ennobled and entitled to sit on those cushioned red benches in the House of Lords.

Around six will be Labour and the Liberals will only get 10 which is more than the MPs they got in the election. But of course being a left leaning party they'll accept them with gratitude and of course the Tories will have 35 to keep an inbuilt majority to enable them to carry on more austerity cuts without much ado.

Of course these privileged people will be entitled to highly subsidised a la carte meals as well as £300 a day just for attending.

Meanwhile, in the real world the £12bn of austerity cuts are affecting millions meaning councils are having to slash their social services and many clubs providing meals for the elderly and coffee mornings have shut. Meals on wheels, which was often the only contact our elderly had with fellow human beings, have all but disappeared and home helps, if available, are limited to 15 minutes.

Of course our children's services don't escape (well that would not be fair) as hundreds of youth clubs are forced to shut their doors.

I often wonder if these ermine-clad brotherhood know or give two hoots of what's happening outside the Westminster bubble. I very much doubt it.
