I READ quite a lot about teenagers being injured on the roads of St Helens.
I always thought it was bad drivers or maybe a lack of pedestrian crossings to blame.
However, things became a little clearer when I was at the scene of an accident on the St Helens Linkway.
According to police, it is a popular past time with a minority of teenagers to play chicken with the traffic at peak times of the evening. One person films the event on their mobile phone, or other device, whilst the rest run across the path of oncoming cars?
Apparently with the intention to nearly get hit...but not quite!
It seems to have a bit of a social media following? Gone are the days of ‘knock and run’...it would seem.
The social media network has a lot to answer for.
