RAINHILL Town secured three points with this win against an obdurate and resolute Heswall team.

Chances were at a premium in the first half with the defences on top. After going in at the interval 0-0, the second half produced a more aggressive approach from Rainhill.

Their reward was an opening goal from skipper Colm Lynch, when he rolled the ball into an empty net following a defensive mix up in the Heswall defence.

Town continued to dominate the game but a slender lead was always precarious.

Towards the final minutes Heswall threw everyone forward in search of the equaliser but left themselves open at the back when following a long clearance from defence, Luke Garvey latched onto the ball down the right wing and coolly slotted home past the advancing goalkeeper.

This win takes Town into the top five of the West Cheshire League first division.

The reserves emulating their senior team ran out 3-1 winners against Heswall Reserves in the WCL Shield cup-tie.

The 3rds came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 against MGFC and the 4ths continued their impressive form with a 5-0 demolition of Lomax.

The First team have no game next week but the Reserves entertain Old Xaverian Reserves in the Liverpool Junior Cup.
