SAINTS skipper James Roby would love to lead his team back to Wembley after a break of ten years - but stressed that the team were only looking as far as Saturday’s next round at Castleford.

It is huge opening hurdle – albeit not as insurmountable as it looked last year when they were trounced 53-10.

But that is all water under the bridge, with Saints having walloped last year’s League Leaders Shield winners on the opening day of Super League.

Roby, who made his return to action last week after missing three weeks with a rib cartilage injury, is excited by the challenge.

He said: “It is massive for Saints. Deep down every single player wants to win the Challenge Cup and all will be striving for that.

“There are not many more tougher draws than Cas away.

“We have had a lot of great games against them recently. They are a fantastic team and we know what to expect.

“It will be hard-fought but we are looking forward to it as a team.”

With it being same time, place and competition as 12 months ago, that defeat looms heavy in the preview.

But not with Roby who said: “Last year’s cup match is irrelevant - we are in a totally different place to where we were last year.

“It was a fresh start this season if you like, and it probably does no good thinking about that cup game because we got battered.

“We know as a playing group that we are going to have to go there and work really hard if we are to come away with a victory.

“We are aware of that, it is what we are willing to do and everyone is in the right mindset at the minute.”

Roby was the first player to score at the new Wembley, and although Saints went back and won it again in 2008, they have not been since.

“Ten years is too long for a club like St Helens and the success we are associated with.

“We are aware of that and want to get there,” he said.

"We are not thinking about that big picture - it is the small steps at a time.

"And we have done that pretty well so far this year. Focus on the here and now and get the job done," he said.
