JOE Greenwood has been ruled out of this week’s match at Warrington after suffering a head knock in last Friday’s defeat to Hull FC.

The forward left the field against Hull FC after suffering from concussion and coach Keiron Cunningham has confirmed he won’t take part for Friday’s trip to the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

“Joe won’t play, he spent the night in hospital so I don’t think you’ll be seeing Joe this week,” said Cunningham.

“We’ve got to send him to the experts to have a look at him now to make sure everything’s good to go to clear him to play.

“He’s been doing a good job for us and unfortunately he’s not available but it gives somebody else the chance to play in that position.”

Cunningham expects Luke Walsh to be fit but does not expect any of his injured troops to return.

Greenwood’s absence adds to the growing casualty list with winger Tommy Makinson last week ruled out for the rest of the season and Mark Percival and Atelea Vea still unavailable.

But Cunningham states the club has no intention of any short-term recruitment to provide cover.

“We’re full on the cap so there’s nothing we can do,” he said.

“We’ve got plenty of other juniors who have been on our system for a long time so all them kids will get a shot at some point.

“We’ve got plenty of injuries now but all it does is it gives somebody else an opportunity. We are still comfortable and we’re still happy with the squad that we’ve got. The Easter period has took its toll on us and many others but that’s rugby. You’ve got to move on.”

And Cunningham says he is still unable to put a timeline on long-term absentee Jonny Lomax’s return.

“We were hoping he’d be fit for the end of March but things took a turn for not the best.

“We’ll just play it week by week, there’s other issues with Jonny that isn’t regarding his knee.

"I’d love the kid to be running around in a Saints shirt, he’d help me out and my team but we can’t force the issue, we’ve got to be patient with him. I’m desperate for him to be back.”
