TEENAGE wing Regan Grace has been named in the Wales squad for the big Danny Jones benefit match against Keighley Cougars this Sunday at Cougar Park (kick-off 3pm).

The flying wing, who missed the closing games of the Academy year having been suspended for two matches, will feature at some stage of the clash with coach John Kear suggesting that he will use all 21 players.

Jones, who sadly died earlier this year whilst playing for Keighley but not for any on-field incident, won 12 caps for Wales between 2010 and 2013 and was a popular player with both his club and his country.

Plenty of fundraising has gone on throughout 2015 to raise money for Danny’s widow Lizzie and their twins, and Kear said that all the Welsh players who are fit and available want to have a game.

“We see this match as being very important,” Kear said. “Danny was one of ours and we have to be respectful and perform accordingly so.

“All of the available squad will play at some stage in this game as they all wish to pay tribute and fundraise. It’s unfair to select a squad of 17 for this game because of that.

“It’s an honour to be involved in such a fundraising event and hope loads go to support it great RL and fundraising success.”

Wales do have a few injuries. Lewis Reece is a doubt because of his concussion in last week’s win over Scotland in Wrexham but could be passed fit on Saturday. Dan Fleming is injured, Phil Joseph is attending a relative’s wedding and Morgan Knowles is also unavailable with a pre-arranged event.

While a few absentees will give other players a chance to shine, Kear said that this is not in the forefront of his mind.

“We are primarily concentrating supporting Danny’s family,” Kear adds. “If we have any other benefits we’re delighted, if we don’t then we don’t mind. We just want to be there, make the event successful and raise lots of money.”
