SAINTS' powerhouse prop Alex Walmsley grabbed the hat-trick of awards at last night's end of season dinner at Langtree Park.

Walmley, who has enjoyed his best season to date as a professional, picked up the Founder Members Player of the Year, Players' Player of the Year and beat James Roby for the Player of the Year award.

Coach Keiron Cunningham was full of praise for the front rowers displays this term.

He said: "I have played Alex a lot longer minutes this year and he is a lot fitter. He is also maturing naturally as a footballer – we keep putting stuff into him to try to educate him all the time.

"He is a natural leader and I see Alex as a future captain of the club if he sticks around long enough.

"A couple of NRL clubs did come in for him (before he signed his contract this year) but I told Alex that I going to try and build the pack around him for the future.

"He is definitely the future of the club – a young English forward who does a great job and wears his heart on his sleeve.

"He has taken upon that leadership role where he is leading those young kids by example."

Mark Percival was voted Founder Members Young Player of the Year, with Andre Savelio taking the Young Player of the Year honours.

Outstanding prospect Morgan Knowles, who made his senior debut this season, collected the Under 19s Player of the Year award with prop Jordan Olmez taking the prize for the under 16s.
