SAINTS front rower Kyle Amor says that there will be no resting on laurels after last year’s stunning Grand Final win over Wigan.

Instead the big Cumbrian prop believes that the taste of Old Trafford and those memories of running around the Theatre of Dreams with that big silver trophy will give them the spur to do it all again this year.

And after a gruelling pre-season training schedule Amor is champing at the bit to get out on the paddock with a ball in his hands for what promises to be another exciting season under a new fixture format.

Amor said: “We all know what we did last year was special, but we drew a line under that when we got back in training after our four week break.

“We all know if we all sit back on our heels and think how wonderful it was, we are going to come up short this year and that is not what we want to do as a club.

“We want to be happy with what we have done - but the feeling of wanting to go on and do it all again is even stronger.

“I don’t want to go the rest of my career without that feeling again.”

The champagne bubbles were well and truly flat by the the time fitness coach Matty Daniels drew up his pre season schedule which has included early morning runs across some particularly unfriendly terrain - all designed to deposit extra miles in the fitness bank.

Amor said: “The first couple of weeks you are buzzing and glad to be back – but 10 days before Christmas you just want to get it out of the way.

“The Saturday morning sessions were approached with dread – you know it s going to be running around the Dream or up and down the dunes at Formby beach for three hours and that it is going to hurt.

“It is always 6am start, so you just know that by 10am you are not going to be able to walk for the rest of the day!”

The 27-year-old prop, who Saints brought over from Wakefield, was a key part in the way in which they started last term.

And he has a good feeling approaching his second year at Langtree Park - and praised the work of the new coaching combination.

“I don’t know whether it is because it is my second year but it just feels a lot more tight and comfortable.

“Longy has come back and he has been a huge guy at this club – in terms of rugby both he and Kez have brought a calmer approach.

“Kez was doing a lot of work last year with us middles especially - so there is continuity there and Longy has come in and been great with the backs and the kickers.

“We are champions and know that people are going to come here and try and knock us off and that’s a mentality that we have got to get used to now.

“That comes with how you start games.

“For us as a group we need to hit the ground running every single game and be champions for that reason,” he said.
