LSH put up a determined display at Glossop but, failing to turn their massive possession and territory into points, came away with nothing.

The home side meanwhile, made the most of the few chances that cam their way and won by virtue of a try in each half.

The game got underway in surprisingly pleasant conditions, after the LSH Officials and travelling support had been well fed and watered by their excellent hosts.

With the pitch bearing signs of a hard winter and recent snow, it was clear however that running rugby would be at a premium.

Glossop enjoyed the best start and went ahead after ten minutes when a line-out catch and drive brought their first try, converted for a 7-0 lead.

From that point on LSH, with forwards Sam Molyneux, Chris Houlton, Mark Fryer and Mario Bonati working like Trojans, continually moved the ball stealthily through the midfield into an attacking position before someone, unfortunately, would drop or lose the ball.

Sadly for LSH this pattern of events became too frequent and Glossop settled into their own pattern of booting the ball as far as they could into LSH territory.

Fortunately for LSH Jake Hodson was up to everything that came at him and so the pattern was regularly repeated.

On one of the rare occasions when Glossop entered the LSH 22, they won a penalty in the 39th minute and kicked it for a 10-0 half time lead.

Disaster struck immediately on the restart when after a line-out Glossop swung the ball from one touchline to the other and drove over in the left hand corner for a fine try. 15-0.

For the rest of the half LSH bossed possession and territory without really looking like scoring primarily because of Glossop’s excellent defence.

LSH failed to take any real advantage from the ten second half penalties that came their way on a day when they in turn produced a blank second half penalty count.

An entertaining game, given the conditions, finished in time for everyone to watch the England v Wales, a game of superior quality but of no greater or lesser commitment than that at Hargate Hill on Saturday.

This Saturday LSH travel to New Brighton. Kick off 3pm
