RUSKIN Park, in only their second game in the newly formed Merseyside West Division, were keen to impress the large assembled crowd.

And that is what they did beating Mossley Hill by a record score of 99-5.

From the kick-off Ruskin began their dominance of the game securing good ball and feeding the eager back-line, with club Captain Sam Hughes orchestrating the play.

After a period of pressure, Adam Fogarty, making his first start in the back row, broke away and scored in the corner to start the scoreboard ticking over.

Within minutes Chris Dyson had crossed to make it 10-0, closely followed by Matt Bartlett with the conversion coming from Alex Stuart, 17-0.

Mossley Hill looked to be containing Ruskin with a good period of possession, however Bartlett finished off a good counter-attack to cross in the corner once again, Stuart converted from the touchline to make it 24-0.

It was now the turn of the forwards to get in on the act with Chris Lyon making a barn-storming run to register his first try of the campaign, Stuart converting.

The try-scoring continued when Dyson broke through the Mossley Hill defence following some great play from Danny Davies to score his second of the day. Relishing his new role, Fogarty, backing up play well, scored his second try of the match within minutes with Stuart converting both tries to make it 45-0.

As half-time approached, the was no let-up in the pressure as Neale Foster finished off an excellent passage of play to score Ruskin’s 8th try of the day, Stuart once again converted to push the score onto 52-0 at the break.

Mossley Hill started the second half with more aggression and a resolve to get on the board, only for the ever-young Mike Faralley to step his way to the line within minutes of the re-start. Alex Stuart was next on the scoreboard after more good work from Davies and Hughes. Stuart failed to convert his own try, 62-0.

Following a clash of handbags at the breakdown, the Ruskin pack upped their work rate to secure more good ball for the backs and Hughes coordinated a flurry of tries from Foster and a further brace from Fogarty. Stuart converted all three, 85-0.

Dyson was shortly despatched to the bin, but despite being down a man, Ruskin continued the scoring with Adam Fogarty crossing for, what is thought to be a Ruskin record, fifth try of the game.

Mossley Hill were rewarded for their never say die attitude with a consolation try late in the second half making it 92-5.

However, the final word fell to Jon McGarvey who scored in the dying minutes following another fantastic passage of play from the Ruskin pack.

Stuart converted to finish the game 99-5.

Credit must be given to Mossley Hill who never gave up throughout the match and showed great spirit despite the score line.

Ruskin will not be resting on their laurels as next week they travel to local rivals Newton-Le-Willows for what should be a great derby match.
