NEWTON le Willows Cricket Club has enjoyed a successful campaign across all age groupings this term.

The club has four senior teams, with the 1st and 2nd teams playing on a Saturday in the Liverpool Competition and the 3rd and 4th teams playing on a Sunday.

The 3rd team, led by Chris Edge, reached the Embee Trophy finals day at Northern Cricket Club.

The club’s junior sides have gone a step further, with their under-9 section being both league and cup winners, the under-11s lifting the cup too, and both the under-13s and under-15s finishing league runners-up, all this success in the Wigan and District Junior Cricket League.

Newton under-16s reached the finals day of the Liverpool and District Cup, only to be beaten by New Brighton. In recognition of the club’s junior section successes, many players have been selected to play for their district sides and several have also been give county honours playing for Lancashire County Cricket Club. Two, Ben Walkden and Matthew Hurst, captain their side.

Newton are looking to build on this success for next season.
