RAINHILL couldn’t finish off the Welsh visitors from Colwyn Bay in the Med Imaging Liverpool 1st Division match and had to settle for a draw. Rainhill elected to bat and after losing an early wicket, Brown (45) joined Atkinson (53) and their 92 run partnership laid the foundation for the Rainhill declaration.

Rotheram’s quick-fire 48 followed by fast scoring from the other batsmen allowed Rainhill to declare on 208 for 7 off 55 overs. Shahabuddin, Jenkins and Williams all took 2 wickets each.

Gidlow (44) and Morris (29) led the Colwyn reply and at 93 for 2, they were in control. Puddle (24) and Roberts (34) continued the chase and with five wickets in hand and 50 required from the last 10 overs Colwyn should have won if they would have shown a more positive approach.

When attempting to block for the draw, wickets fell. Unfortunately for Rainhill, they couldn’t get the last wicket and Colwyn finished on 182 for 9.

Qureshi being the best of the home bowlers taking 6 for 76.

Colwyn have drawn more games than any other team in all 3 divisions and remain unbeaten but are still 55 points adrift of 2nd placed Rainhill.
