AFTER the highs of two weeks previous, Recs were brought down to with a bump with a disappointing start to their Premier Division campaign.

Despite some showing early promise in the opening exchanges, Recs attack never really threatened their established opponents.

The visitors were first on the score sheet when a Recs mistake gifted possession in their own half.

The experienced Wigan team making the territory count with centre, Liam Gannon darting over from acting half to score a converted try after 11 minutes.

The game was being ground out in the middle with few chances created, but it was the visitors who looked most dangerous with the ball and were over again on the half hour mark when Gannon scored his second from a well worked move. Dan Birkett converting his second of the afternoon.

Recs replied immediately as Ryan Hilliard broke from his own half before Liam Bostock worked the short side on the next play, supplying the final pass for John Rees to crash over for his first of the season.

Greg Smith converted to give a half-time score of 6-12.

With only five minutes of the second half played, the visitors were over after neat handling in the middle of the pitch saw half-back Joe Prior race over from 40 metres, Birkett converted.

As Recs tried to force their next score the game became littered with errors that will not please coach, Kurt Haggerty, as his side lacked the composure that will be needed to compete at the top level of amateur rugby.

The game was effectively sealed when Birkett converted a penalty awarded for a ball steal and open up a three-score cushion.

Recs reduced the deficit after Greg Smith supported another Hilliard break, but it was mere consolation with the clock showing only two minutes left to play.

Smith converted to complete the scoring.
