ST HELENS Sutton A.C. enjoyed a successful weekend of Cross Country running at the double with team and individual victories in the Manchester and Liverpool Cross Country Leagues.

First up was the Manchester Cross Country League fixture at kenworthy Woods on the Saturday, the Under 11 boys team finished a very creditable 7th, Woody Kelly in 20th was first home for the club in 10 minutes 16 seconds, followed by James Goddard 48th in 10 minutes 54 seconds and Woody Dean 60th in 11 minutes 14 seconds.

In the girls section of the race Lucy Clauge ran 14 minutes 54 seconds for 59th place. Meanwhile in the Under 13 Boys race Bobby Birkett had another excellent run finishing second in 12 minutes 7 seconds, backed up by Lucas Vine in 15 minutes 24 seconds in 81st place.

The club's Under 13 girls finishers were Melissa Goddard 15 minutes 58 seconds in 35th and Lily McKeegan 42nd in 17 minutes.

In the Under 15 boys Riley Underhill ran 18 minutes 33 seconds in 20th place and Benjamin Genner 21 minutes 23 seconds for 39th position.

Nicole Anders ran 24 minutes 31 seconds for 26th place in the Under 15 girls.

Another superb performance by Liam Johnson in the Under 17 mens race saw him finish 1st in 20 minutes 56 seconds, meanwhile in the Under 17 ladies race Lily Birkett clocked 28 minutes 23 seconds for a very respectable 14th place.

St Helens Star:

The senior Women's team of Taylor Massey, Susan Johnson, Sarah Birkett and Siobhan Massey finished in 24th place, Taylor Massey was delighted to finish 1st in the Under 20s section of the race to claim her first prize.

The times in finishing order were 36 minutes 46 seconds, 43 minutes 29 seconds, 44 minutes 44 seconds and 44 minutes 55 seconds.

With one eye on the Liverpool Cross Country Championships the day after, there were fewer senior men turning out than normal.

However those who did performed admirably, finishers were 138th Michael Brussels 35 minutes 30 seconds, 294th Martin Johnson 41 minutes 32 seconds, 296th Chris Birkett 41 minutes 37 seconds and 297th Steve Anders 41 minutes 38 seconds.

On the Sunday the senior mens team finished in 1st place to better last year's second place to win the championship from Liverpool Harriers
