ST HELENS Sutton A.C members were in the medals in the Junior age groups in the Merseyside Cross Country Championships held just down the East Lancashire road at Croxteth Park Liverpool.

The course was predominantly flat but very muddy in places.

In the Under 11 girls race Lucy Clauge finished third thereby earning a county medal.

The Under 13 girls team consisting of Tess Mullen 24th, Melissa Goddard 26th, Lily McKeegan 29th and Sophie Lang 31st finished 3rd and were happy to collect their medals.

In the Under 13 Boys race Bobby Birkett once again took the gold medal in 1st place as well as earning a county vest he was backed up by Tyler Pearce in 24th and Lucas Vine in 29th.

In the Under 15 Boys race Luke Wilson finished 6th earning a County vest with Ben Garner not far behind in 11th.

In the under 17 Ladies race there was more county vest selection with Lily Birkett finishing 8th, with Taylor Massey also being selected.

In the Under 17 men's race the team of Liam Johnson 1st , Gabriel Mullen6th and Will Vose7th, finished 1st all gaining county selection with Liam Johnson taking the gold medal.

An under strength Senior Mens team still posted some impressive performances, Daniel Cooke 11th, Chris Birkett 21st, making a welcome return to competition Matt Blake in 34th, followed by Barry Graney 36th and Michael Brussels in 37th.

The club's next cross country event is the Liverpool and District Cross Country Championships for senior men and women to be held at Clarke Gardens, Liverpool next Sunday.
