MARGERET Farrell, who sadly passed away on 30 December aged 73, was something of a prolific darts player and footballer in her sporting heyday of the late 70s and early 80s.

And son Dennis is looking to see if anyone has memories or newspaper articles featuring his mum – who was once dubbed the Bullseye Babe on account her prowess on the oche.

St Helens Star:

Margaret (far left on the back row of the picture) also played football for the Greenalls club on Alder Hey Road, but it was darts were she reigned supreme.

Over the years she played for Triplex Social Club, the Turks Head, Boundary Vaults, Traveller's Rest and was at the Black Bull for many years.

Margaret also earned county honours, representing Lancashire Ladies.

Dennis said: “I know Mum won many competitions in her time in the darts but would love to find some old newspaper cuttings or reports from the local papers from the time.

“I think she won a local St Helens Star event and won the competition three years running from 1981/82.

“Apparently, she finished one of them on a double bull, hence the nickname ‘Bullseye Babe’.

“I think she played a big competition at Morecambe but I am not sure if she played at Lakeside.

“She even won a holiday back in late 1970s which I think was something to do with Pony Magazine competitions."

Margaret Farrell’s funeral will take place on Monday, 5 February at St Thomas of Canterbury church at 2.30pm and then on to the St Helens Crematorium.

If anyone has any memories of Margaret please contact the Star, email: mike.critchley@nqnw.co.uk and we will pass on.
