NEWTON-le Willows won their fifth game of the season in the Love Lane Liverpool Competition Premier League following a thrilling finish to their clash with Southport and Birkdale.

Lancashire spinner Jack Morley had put the hosts in the driving seat with 6-45 as the visitors were dismissed for 142 and at 80-3 they looked to be cruising to victory until a clutch of wickets saw them reduced to 124-7. But Morley (18no) was joined by Dominic Chambers (12no) at the crease and the eighth wicket pair were able to steer their side home with no further alarms.

Rainhill's winning streak ended in defeat at Orrell Red Traingle after the hosts had posted 208-7 from 58 overs. Opener Tyler McGladdery struck 55 and Imliwati Lemtur was unbeaten on 48 but the visitors were dismissed 13 runs short of the target.

Rainford lost the chance to make up ground on the Division One promotion places after a heavy defeat to leaders Liverpool. Spinner John Dotters continued his brilliant form with 5-89 as the Aigburth outfit declared on 221-9 which proved far too many for the visitors who were dimissed for just 89.

In Division Two St Helens Town's Sharan Rajendran took an incredible 7-6 off 11.2 overs as Prestatyn were skittled for 50 on the Welsh coast. Town made hard work of the target losing six wickets before they sealed victory in the 21st over.

In the Southport and District Premier League Haydock's Adam Pennington top scored with 43 as his side were dismissed for 120 by Birkenhead St Mary's who completed a seven wicket win.

Prescot and Odyssey's Cris Toms took 4-17 as Cheshire Lines were bowled out for 136 in Allerton. Ken Highdale hit 30 but it was not enough as the visitors were dismissed for 96.
