TWO St Helens Sutton A.C.’s male road runners made the short trip to Hale Village for its 5 mile road race and found themselves heavily outnumbered by the club’s ten ladies who also competed.

Andrew Wilson, an 40 veteran, had the satisfaction of being the club’s first finisher in 20th place in a field of 444 finishers with his time of 29 min.50 secs, while Shaun Ashcroft’s time of 46 min.04 secs. earned him 199th place in his class.

Gemma Connolly led all but two of the race’s ladies home finishing third in 30 min.25 secs.. Julia Shuker (F40) was the club’s next finisher being the 15th lady in 37 min.25 secs., Rachel Wilcock was 26th in 40 min.00 secs. and Carol Stanley 39th in 42 min.05 secs.

Catherine Leather and Karen Harrison finished close to each other in 57th and 63rd places and times of 44 min.11 secs. and 44 min.41 secs.

Four less experienced ladies completed the turnout and successfully completed the course. Louise

Hamilton ran 61 min.30 secs., Kay Wilcock and Clare Brown both ran 65 min.18 secs., and Jane Makin 68 min.23 secs. and should be congratulated on completing the course.
