THE field for the William Hill World Darts Championship has been confirmed, following Monday's decisive PDPA Qualifier in Coventry.

The £1.25 million tournament will feature 72 players competing for the Sid Waddell Trophy from December 18-January 4 at London's Alexandra Palace.

The top 32 players from the main PDC Order of Merit qualify by right for the tournament, alongside a series of qualifiers from the PDC ProTour Order of Merit - based on the year-long series of non-televised events - and International Qualifiers.

The last two places in the field were confirmed at Monday's PDPA Qualifier in Coventry, when Aberdeen's Jason Hogg won a place in the first round proper and Hong Kong's Scott Mackenzie secured a preliminary round spot.

Last weekend's Cash Converters Players Championship Finals was the last ranking event before the cut-off, with Gary Anderson's victory seeing him secure the number four seeding for the World Championship.

Reigning champion Michael van Gerwen is the number one seed as he defends his title at Alexandra Palace, with 16-time World Champion Phil Taylor seeded second and two-time winner Adrian Lewis the number three seed.

2007 champion Raymond van Barneveld is the number 14 seed - raising the prospect of a tasty third round clash with Lewis if they progress, although the Stoke ace could also meet three-time World Champion John Part in round two.

Stephen Bunting, the 2014 Lakeside Champion, will make his Alexandra Palace debut as the number 27 seed, while another former Lakeside Champion, Christian Kist, is one of the debutants amongst the ProTour Order of Merit qualifiers.

Andrew Gilding is the leading ProTour Order of Merit qualifier as he earned his World Championship debut following a fine year, with Holland's Benito van de Pas and former Welsh rugby professional Gerwyn Price both capping their first year on the PDC circuit with debuts.

The draw for the William Hill World Darts Championship will be made at 12.30pm (GMT) on Tuesday December 2 live on Sky Sports News HQ.
