Saints likely to be without Lance Hohaia for Catalan trip
SAINTS fly out to France today for Saturday evening’s clash with Catalan Dragons in Perpignan.
They go there with some bodies back – Jonny Lomax, Alex Walmsley and Willie Manu – however they will have to re-jig the half back pairing.
Lance Hohaia’s wife is due to give birth to their second child.
Brown said: “Marisa is due – unless she goes into labour then Larny can’t be travelling.
“There are a couple of days to go but at this stage there is no news there so Larny is a doubtful start – for a good reason obviously.”
It is likely to mean that Wellens will vacate the full back spot for the returning Lomax and move up to partner Luke Walsh in the halves.
Brown does have the option of picking Gary Wheeler there, but may opt to keep the former Blackbrook junior in the centres.
Brown expects a different set of Dragons than the ones they put 40 points on at Langtree Park in March.
“Their home form is definitely stronger, but I think you are also seeing them playing better since their injured players have returned.
“Once the likes of Louis Anderson and co started coming back, then they started playing well again,” he said.
Although the trip can be tough, Brown sees benefits of the squad going into camp for the three days.
The team leave Thursday and fly back on Sunday.
Brown said: “It is great going in camp – and being an Aussie I look forward to going over there for the weather and the different set-up.
“It is a great challenge – the intimidating fans and a great team.
“It is a good experience for the younger players and older players being in camp together is important for any squad.
“We should go there with plenty of confidence."
