ST Helens Sutton AC had a great day at Cleckheaton on Sunday winning their first match in this year’s Senior Northern Track & Field League.

The team spirit was fantastic with many athletes covering a multitude of events to gain maximum points.

Taylor Caton-Hand was the most successful individual winning the long jump (6.65m.) and the triple jump (13.83m. a P.B.) and taking third in the high jump (1.78m, PB) plus a 11.7s 100m for 3rd.

Phil Robinson was his usual busy self, being second in the pole vault (3.00m.), third in the 110m. hurdles (23.2s.) and the javelin (36.33m.) plus a 9.64m shot put high jumping 1.55m and a PB of 11.28m in the triple jump.

Luke Towers won the 3000m. steeplechase in a PB of 10 min.43.0 and ran 17 min.00 in the 5000m.

Callum Lockett was 2nd in the 800m. (2 min.4.6 secs.) and ran a P.B. of 4 min.27.0 sec. in the 1500m. and Tom Griffiths ran a P.B. of 16 min.43.4 for 1500m.

Other P.B.’s for the men were Mike Hughes, 26.03m discus, Steven Winn, 12.19m. hammer and 16.23m. javelin and Jonathan Causer, 2 min.14.7 800m.

There were individual wins for Gemma Connolly (3000m, 10 min.38.3.) and Emma McClatchy (javelin, 27.01m.) plus a second in the pole vault (2.40m.).

A second for Maria McGoldrick in the 800m. (2 min.32.2 secs.), a 11 min.38.2 3000m run from Rachel McGoldrick in winning the B event and would have taken second place in the A race.

Karen Marsh was third in both hurdles races (100m., 19.3 secs., 400m., 82.1 secs.). Others who were competing for the first time either at this level or for the club were Megan Crehan (1500m. 3rd in 6 min.23.5 secs.), Jessica Leonard 100m. & 200m.), Louise Fairclough (discus & shot), Jonathan Causer (400m. 7 800m.), Adam Woosey (200m. & 400m.) and Lachlan Fisher (200m. & long jump).
