RAINFORD made a winning start to their Med Imaging Liverpool Competition Division 1 campaign with an emphatic 180 run demolition of Orrell.

It sparked a hat-trick of wins for the club with the 2nd X1 and 3rd X1 also achieving success over the weekend.

After being put in Andy Davies’ men suffered a couple of early setbacks to be 16 for 2 before Matt Bailey (47) and Joe Noctor put them back on track with a 65 run partnership.

John Dotters (31) joined Noctor to move the score along with Noctor reaching an excellent century before finishing on 107 not out. Ravi Mistry was the final man to partner Noctor producing a whirlwind cameo, hitting 46 not out in 29 balls enabling the declaration on 254 for 4.

In reply the visitors were destroyed by the pace of Ollie Jump and the craft of John Dotters.

Losing wickets at regular intervals Orrell were dismissed for 74 with Jump taking 4 for 30 and Dotters 5 for 21.

Rainford 2nd X1, now promoted to the Comp’s 2nd X1 Division 1 made an excellent start with a 34 run victory at Wigan.

A steady all round batting performance with Ollie Lawrenson (42), Steven Cline (36) and Phil Curran (22) leading the way, saw them post a competitive 182 all out.

Cline spearheaded the Rainford response in the second half with 4 for 51 and backed up with two wickets apiece for Andrew Harrison and Chris Spencer Wigan were bowled out for 148.

The 3rd X1 went to Highfield on Sunday and in a thriller won by just four runs.

Will Tabern (40), Ellie Threlkeld (33), Tony Derbyshire (23) and Stu Burrill (22 not out) all contributed in posting 182 for 9 declared.

Although Highfield made steady progress, Steven Cline bagged 3 for 55 before Tony Derbyshire delivered the match winning spell of 4 for 13.
