Updated 1:10am Saturday 15th March 2014 in Sport
This live event has finished
- Saints beat Catalan to make it five from five
- Dragons lose their unbeaten record at Langtree Park
- Adam Swift carried on his free scoring form
- Game marred by injuries to Luke Walsh, Jordan Turner and Sia Soliola
Brown said: "The boys did great to hang on in there with the injuries and resultant disruptions. We had one bloke coming off the bench for all the second half and blokes rolling out in different position too. To hang in there was brilliant.
"At 24-0 we were coasting and looking good and then they scored. I was disappointed with their second try though, we shouldn't let a hooker do that.
"We got off to a reasonable start in the second half but had a lot of players in different positions. We had to work hard and middle did well defensively.
"Whenever we got an opportunity we scored or had one disallowed so our execution was good.
"It was our best win of the year and it's a good sign the boys can hang in there."
"Jordan Turner has a hamstring problem, Luke Walsh is a calf and Sia has an issue with his knee. I don't think his will be long term.
"Walsh and Turner's are muscle injuries and I can't guess on the length of time out. We will know more next week.
"Both are hard to replace but Jon Wilkin took us to one point against a good Leeds team and he can slot in and do a job. We will head over to Wakefield and put a side together that we expect to play well."
Saints boss Nathan Brown declared the win the best of the season given the manner in which they dug in.
Brown revealed that Luke Walsh had a calf injury, Jordan Turner, hamstring, and Sia Soliola a leg, but could not put times on their recovery.
Luke Walsh is out with his tracksuit on, limped back down the tunnel.
Final score; Saints have won. That was a real gutsy effort given the injuries.
Looked like Walmsley played on with injury there too.
Going to be a busy treatment table next week.
Swift scores Saints seventh of the evening. Phew!
Goal missed, 36-22.
Another Oldfield try, acrobatic touchdown in the corner.
Superb touchline conversion by Lomax, 38-18.
Big, big score for Lance Hohaia after a charging run from Willie Manu.
Oldfield try in the corner, Bosc goal.
30-18, two score ball game.
Leon Pryce has taken a knock in the tackle. Play is stopped.
With the injuries Saints could do with getting a try now, just to settle this once and for all. They have just gone close but then Walmsley spilled a bad pass close to the line.
That is now three players off the pitch with injuries - never rains but it pours.
And now Sia Soliola is injured. He is being carried off by two trainers with what looks like a leg injury.
Try for Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook.
Came after a great charge from Soliola following a Roby high kick and the pressure that followed.
Manu is on for Walsh, that means Wilkin will go to number 7.
Those last two tries have subdued the home crowd.
Shame really there was a lot of good stuff in the middle 20 minutes of that half.
But the run of penalties - including a big line clearing one - have got the Dragons back in this game.
Prior to that we were probably looking at a cricket score.
Bosc goal, 24-12
Catalan have scored again. They have benefitted from four penalties onm the trot and are now back in the game. Pelissier try under the sticks.
34 mins and Mose Masoe is on.
Try for Catalan's Garcia - greeted with the chant of six points to the referee from the west stand.
Goal from Bosc. 24-6.
It is unfortunate that the day Saints dont have a back on the bench that they lose an outside back.
Saints playing good rugby and the west stand has really found its voice.
Walsh goal, 24-0.
A wonder try from Tommy Makinson, beating men in the middle from 45 metres out to score beneath the sticks.
Amor goes close after a great offload by loose forward Wellens.
Great break by Swift - too quick for the support!
Not a good sign, Turner has come off looking a touch uncomfortable, Soliola has replaced him.
Walsh goal, 18-0.
19: Try for Turner, Saints simply pounded the middle and then worked it right where Turner could power home. 16-0 kick to come.
Saints' kicking game is really punishing the French now. This time forcing a knock on from Escare.
Walsh goal, in off the cross bar 12-0.
15- Try time for Makinson, takes Turner's pass and speeds in at the corner.
Walsh kick wide - but Makinson can't collect this time
Walsh adds the goal, 6-0
Try for Josh Jones - Saints move the ball and he forces his way over on the left after 9 minutes.
Saints gave a guard of honour to Paul Wellens. 500 and Jon Wilkin 350 career appearances
Saints struggling to get out of their own half so far in the sets after knocking on from the kick off.
