BROTHERS Josh and Danny Lynch played a key role as Recs edged one step closer to promotion after battling back from a 12-6 half time deficit.

Converted tries from Frankie Phillips and Rob Bailey for Hindley – and a reply by Ryan Hilliard for Recs gave the home side an advantage.

But Kurt Haggerty’s men, whose form has been scratchy of late, dug in and substitute Josh Lynch crossed for a try after the break, which his elder brother converted.

Danny, who had returned from the BARLA tour to Australia in midweek, then nudged the red, amber and blacks ahead with a penalty.

And he added to his points tally, by going in for a try and adding the conversion to secure the victory.

Recs stand second in NCL Division Three going into the final round of fixtures. They are level with Cumbrians’ Kells who have a significantly superior points difference.

A win at home to Woolston on Saturday would seal Recs promotion, however, their supporters will have one eye on the Kells versus Underbank fixture.

Kells can secure the title by winning the match, however, a victory for third placed Underbank (who trail the top two by two points) could hand Recs the title, providing the St Helens team do the business against Woolston.

But Recs could miss out on promotion altogether on points difference if they were to lose at home and Underbank win at Kells.
