IT’S a city which boasts stellar players like Messi... but even though the mercurial Argentinian wasn’t in the line up, a team from Barcelona still came out tops in an international football tournament played...in Billinge.
The Spanish outfit triumphed 1-0 over Billinge Chapel End to lift the keenly-contested trophy.
Brian Montrose, a Year 3 class teacher at Billinge Chapel End, has links with the Spanish city through a university chum who teaches at Oak House school there. The tournament was the second to be held in the Billinge school.
Birchley St Mary’s and St Aidan’s primaries from Billinge also competed.
Brian said: “All the children who participated were a credit to their school, playing the games in a sporting manner combined with a will to win. “
