DIAGNOSED with ovarian cancer in 2009, songbird Lynn Jones battled through her darkest days thanks to surgery at Whiston Hospital, therapy at the Lilac Centre and Willowbrook Hospice, plus prayers and support of family and friends.

She was so moved by all this care and compassion that Lynn from Rainhill pledged to organise a fundraising concert for Willowbrook last year and such was its full-house (£1,000 plus) success, she’s staging an encore.

As previously the night will feature Lynn (60), Aughton Male Voice Choir and the Village Singers, while husband Robert will act as master of ceremonies and a bumper raffle will also keep the cash flowing into the caring Hospice’s coffers.

Apart from precautionary check-ups Lynn is now happily treatment-free.

A glance at her input to the local operatic and choral scene over a generation reveals that she has graced the Theatre Royal footlights on numerous occasions.

These include ‘leading lady’ roles both as vocalist and actress in playing Maria in Richard Rodger’s and Oscar Hammerstein’s classics The Sound of Music and Carousel, plus Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow.'

Mother of Mark and grandmother of Sophie, with more patter of tiny feet on the way, Lynn annually enchants audiences at Tree of Lights Christmas services at Lowe House and Prescot churches with renditions of Look Away to Bethlehem.

Add to all this virtuoso appearances for the Village Singers and St Helens and Rainhill Operatic Societies, and it will be soon be understood why dulcet-toned diva Lynn Jones is known as ‘the voice of an angel’.

Dubbed Forget Me Not the emotional musical extravaganza will again be held at Toll Bar United Reformed Church on Friday, May 13, at 7.30pm.

Tickets costing £5 are available from Mrs Jones on 07754 773089 or Willowbrook 01744 453798.
