FITNESS enthusiasts are mounting a gruelling challenge to give disabled children more freedom.

Teams at the Spirit Health Club in the Holiday Inn in St Helens and Haydock have to swim, row, run or walk and cycle 100 miles, within two weeks.

The money raised will go to Whizz-Kidz, a charity that provides wheelchairs and other mobility equipment to help disabled children lead fun and active lives.

Justin Andrews, operations manager of the Spirit Health Club in Haydock, said: “We are confident this challenge will raise an impressive amount of money because of the dedication of our members and the fact it’s for a great cause.

“We chose Whizz-Kidz because they do incredibly valuable work.

“There are 70,000 disabled children and young people in the UK waiting for a wheelchair that fits their young lives. We’re keen to do whatever we can to help.”

Non-members are invited to join the club during the fundraising challenge, which runs until October 11.
