A GRANDFATHER who was one of two pedestrians that died after being in collision with a lorry on the the M6 last Thursday (September 9)has been named.
Thomas Southward, 69, from Haydock, leaves a wife, three adult daughters and five grandchildren.
His wife Jean said: “He was a loving dad to his daughters Tina, Vicky and Jane and loving granddad to his five grandchildren.
“He will be sorely missed by all his family and friends. Tommy lived for his family and also his golf, which he regularly enjoyed.”
The other road victim was 39-year-old Philip Cawley from Ashton-in-Makerfield. Phil leaves a wife and young daughter.
A statement from his family read: "Phil Cawley was a beloved husband, father and son. He was devoted to his family and work, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him."
A 60-year-old lorry driver from Selby in North Yorkshire has been arrested and bailed in connection with the incident, which happened just after junction 17 at Sandbach.
An investigation is being carried out as to why the two men were on the motorway.
