THEIR first attempt to tie the knot might have been grounded by the Icelandic volcano ash cloud but there were no hitches at the second time of asking when Stuart Simmons popped the question to bride Kerry.

Back in April, Kerry (then Harrison) and Stuart told the Star how their plans for a dream wedding in Mexico with 49 guests had gone up in a cloud of smoke when the eruption in Iceland brought flights to a standstill.

At the time, Kerry, 28 and Stuart, 29, coach for Haresfinch Amateur Rugby, were left with no choice but to defer their wedding plans, after all flights from Manchester to Mexico were cancelled.

The wind was on their side for the second attempt and the huge wedding party, including Kerry and Stuart’s two children, 20-month-old Millie and Scott, four, got into the air without a hitch.

Kerry, who works for homeless project Shap, told the Star: “Fortunately this time our flight wasn’t even delayed. But it was a big relief when the plane eventually took off.

“As soon as we were in the air, we had a few beers and the party began.”

Kerry and Stuart’s dream wedding in Playa del Carmen was just as picture perfect as they hoped it would be.

“It was brilliant – definitely worth waiting for.

“I couldn’t have wished for a better day and the location was stunning. We took over the hotel because there were so many of us.”

Now back in Haydock, Kerry said: “The experience has definitely not put me off organising another event abroad. We could never in a million years have predicted what happened.

“Actually we were lucky because it was gorgeous weather when we were there, but at the time that we were supposed to go over originally, the weather was terrible.”

And if you’re thinking about jetting off for a picturesque wedding, Kerry says: “Do it – without a doubt.”
