THIS is the man jailed for 14 and a half years for arranging the collection of £2 million worth of heroin that would have gone onto the region's streets.

Liverpool Crown Court heard Metan Tastan, of Church Road, Haydock was involved in arranging and supervising a drugs consignment collection in Kent.

Tastan, 33, who is originally from Turkey, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply heroin in December 15 and 18 last year. In April two other men involved in the drugs plot were jailed for 12 and 10 years respectively.

The prosecution said that on December 16 last year Tastan and an accomplice were seen having a meeting in the car park of the Star pub in Rainford.

Later they went to Tastan's Haydock home before heading to Faversham where they finalised arrangements for the drugs transaction.

When the men were arrested, 80 packages, weighing 40 kilos, were found with a street value of between £1.5million to £2.3million.

Tastan's defence said he accepted his role in the plot. It has been a single transaction and testimonials showed another side to him.

However, the court heard Tastan was previously jailed for 30 months in Holland for drugs offences involving heroin.
