BRICK throwing thugs endangered a baby girl and the driver of a fire engine in two shocking attacks.

The one-year-old baby was travelling in the back of a car being driven through Islands Brow by her grandfather when a brick bounced off the roof.

He says that the missile was just inches from causing a tragedy on Saturday night.

Two days later and less then a mile away, a yob - who was among a pack of eight teenagers beside a bonfire near Sussex Grove, in Parr – hurled a house brick at a fire engine that had been called out.

It caused the windscreen to partially shatter and the shocked driver had to be taken to hospital.

Infuriatingly for fire crews, police could not deploy immediate patrols to deal with the tearaways and the damaged engine had to back away from the scene.

Following Monday night’s incident one firefighter, who says he is so sickened by the way young thugs get a “free rein”, has told the Star the attack has left him considering his future with the emergency services.
