MAGGIES Nest, a new bands night, will be starting at fledgling Waterloo Street Indie venue Indiependence Friday, September 25.

The idea behind the name for the night came from the famous second-hand shop that was situated on North Road - well known for musical equipment and records.

The night will run on the last Friday of every month and hopes to attract up and coming names from around the UK.

The plan is to build the night and the venue up to be a recognised and respected venue.

The first night will see local lads Urchins, who were formerly known as The Aclyrics, headline.

The boys are one of the strongest acts to come out of St Helens in years, successfully marrying disjointed edgy dark Indie with catchy melodic ska with a dash of folk.

Ex Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr was present at their first gig and was highly impressed with the band’s imaginative and wide ranging sound.

Also on the bill will be St Helens based The Luna Band, showcasing their own mix up of pop, rock and indie.

Maggies Nest will run from 7.30-10.30pm and is just £2 on the door. After the bands the night reverts to resident DJs Dave Sweetmore and Mel Carter, who will be spinning the best in current and classic indie and alternative till 3am with free entry and £1.50 drinks offers all night.
