A NEW nightclub opens this week for adults with learning and physical disabilities.

It is the first of its kind to give people with special needs the chance to enjoy live music and dancing.

Volunteer Steve Hendry, who is launching the venture, said: “These people are marginalised and constantly told what to do.

“They love music and tell me they want to go to a nightclub that is not in a church hall with bingo and raffles.”

‘Gone Clubbing’ is for adults aged 18 and over from St Helens, Runcorn, Widnes and the surrounding areas and will be held at The Quayside in Canal Street, Runcorn on Tuesday, from 7.30pm to 11pm.

He reassured parents and carers that safety will be paramount.

He added: “We would like people to phone up and get a ticket in advance.

“They already meet together regularly and know each other. There will also be people on the door.”

The nightclub, to run fortnightly, will feature a half hour slot with a live musician or entertainer, club music and standard music.

Steve also runs other activities for young adults.

Nightclub tickets, costing £4 for adults and £2 for a support worker/carer, are available by calling 07914 580567.
