YOUNG skateboard ace Matty Carlisle is having trouble keeping his feet on the ground this week.

The schoolboy champ featured in the Star last week after securing the sponsorship of two major skating companies and impressing spectators across the country with his skills on the ramps.

And our piece sparked national interest and now Matty, 11, is flying high after being told he will be part of a weekly feature in a new skating magazine aimed at 9-13 year-olds.

The St Anne’s Primary School pupil will head down to a skating park in Corby, Northamptonshire with his dad for a photo shoot on April 8. The Manchester United fan has been supplied with brand new equipment for the shoot and will demonstrate weekly ‘trick-tips’ in the magazine, which is due to be launched in September.

The magazine is in the early stages of planning and details surrounding its publication have not been confirmed. When we spoke to a London based publisher they said: “We’ve been looking around for someone who could be an inpiration to our readers. It’s difficult to find someone of his age at his level in this country. Matty has certainly got the look and the ability.”

Matty was contacted via his online blog and the magazine will run a trial five issues in which the St Helens youngster will feature.

If the trial is successful, Matty could be involved in a possible 60 issues.

The young sportsman, who has only been skating for 18 months, took part in a skateboard tournament in Manchester last weekend and despite his age was competing alongside 19 and 20 year-olds.

Matty’s proud dad, Chris, said: “I’m delighted with all the attention Matty’s getting. He’s got a lot of work to do if he wants to be a professional but he’s definitely got a great chance of making it.

“I just hope he can keep his feet on the ground”
