JOHNNY Vegas is to headline a special comedy night at St Helens Theatre Royal that will bring the curtain down on former Saints skipper Paul Sculthorpe’s testimonial.

The Thatto Heath funnyman - star of the BBC Three comedy Ideal and ITV hit Benidorm - will make a rare stand up appearance in his hometown at the end of this month.

Johnny invited Scully to the set of Ideal to promote the gig.

Joining Vegas on stage will be North West comedians Seymour Mace and Keith Carter.

Mace, who stars with Vegas in Ideal, was a clown and street performer before turning to comedy and taking the stand up circuit by storm. He was North West Comedian of the Year in 2003.

Carter is a regular performer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and was Liverpool Echo Comedian of the Year in 2003 and North West Breakthrough Comedian of the Year in 2005. He is perhaps best known for his creation of scally character ‘Nige’.

Johnny Vegas & Friends in the Paul Sculthorpe Testimonial Comedy Gig takes place from 8pm on Saturday, January 31, at the Theatre Royal, Corporation Street.

Tickets are priced £17.50 and are available Box Office – 01744 756000.
