A DEVOTED couple, who put their wedding on hold to care for their disabled son, are finally due to tie the knot this weekend - after picking up a cracking £1,500 wedding present courtesy of a competition in your St Helens Star.

Twenty-six-year-old Claire Green says she can’t wait to marry sweetheart Gary Briers (25) this Saturday (October 25) in a lavish ceremony at Eccleston Park Golf Club.

The couple, from West Park, had put their wedding on hold recently to care for their son Thomas - now 20 months who has cerebral palsy.

But they were given the perfect incentive to finally get hitched when they picked up a fantastic Star prize, which includes a wedding ceremony at the exclusive local golf club and a meal, with wine, for up to 50 guests.

Claire beamed: “I couldn’t believe it when we won. I didn’t even realise we had entered the competition, because my sister Laura nominated us!

“I can’t wait for the big day now - it’s going to be really special.”

She added: “It will be emotional to have Thomas with us on the day. He had the cord tied around his neck when he was born and now has cerebral palsy. But he goes regularly to the Star Childrens Centre and Stick ‘n’ Step on the Wirral and is doing great. It will be wonderful to have the whole family together.”
