TWO traffic poles at the Cyclops junction are set to be repaired after being damaged.

Although the council has described the Cyclops junction as the "most significant junction improvement" in recent years, it is safe to say there has been a mixed reaction to the development in Sutton.

With the junction designed to boost safety for pedestrians and cyclists, some believe that the junction is a marked improvement from the previous roundabout, which had no safe crossing facilities.

However, following the lengthy roadworks and traffic disruption when installing the junction, others believe that it has caused added confusion, congestion, and increased the risk of collision.

Last week, residents reported that two traffic poles had been damaged at the Cyclops junction, suggested as happening as a result of a vehicle collision.

Several residents are said to have reported the damage to the council, which is reported to have been left for over a week. This has caused concerns for cyclists, pedestrians, and the families of school children using the junction.

St Helens Council said that it is aware of the damage and is currently making arrangements to have it repaired.

Replacing the roundabout by the Bull and Dog pub on Marshalls Cross Road, the Cyclops junction is part of a £15m investment around the 'St Helens Southern Gateway'.

A combined scheme between St Helens Council, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, and Northern Rail, the aim is to boost safety and make sustainable travel an easier choice for commuters who use Lea Green Railway Station.
