TWO composers from St Helens have written music for Valley Brass Band for its cultural exchange tour of Normandy.

The Valley Brass band based in Haydock has recently toured Normandy, France with an exchange concert with the ‘ Harmonie-de-courseulles’ Band.

The Victoria Wood foundation – supported the exchange by the commissioning of two pieces of music to celebrate female composers in the North of England to be performed during the exchange to represent the heritage of Normandy and St Helens in the music for the exchange.

Karen Unsworth from Sutton, wrote the composition, Château Solitaire, a descriptive music of a castle with a rich history in the Normandy region which currently stands in ruin and Amber Hooton from Garswood composed Marching Saints Overture, a playful work of the ‘Oh when the Saint’s ‘ theme – entwined with snippets of the National Anthem.
