POLICE have named a man who has been charged with assault after reports of a fight in St Helens town centre.

Officers were seen in the area of Chalon Way West, near to Tontine multi-storey car park and The Range shop on Wednesday afternoon, at around 4pm on Thursday, April 4.

A spokeswoman confirmed officers had been called to reports of two men fighting.

A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault by beating and taken to custody.

Police have since confirmed that a man has since been charged in connection with the incident.

Kevin Ritchie, 44 of Shelley Close, Chorley, has been charged with assault by beating.

Ritchie, 44, will appear in court on May 10.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "Police have charged a man with assault following an incident in St Helens yesterday, Thursday, April 4.

"At around 3.55pm we were called to a report of two men fighting on Chalon Way West.

"Kevin Ritchie, 44 years, of Shelley Close in Chorley has been charged with assault by beating and will appear at court on May 10, 2024."
