A PRIMARY school is celebrating after a triple sporting success.

Pupils at Eccleston Mere Primary School were on target as they triumphed in athletics competitions.  

On Friday, March 15, the school's Year 3/4 athletics team won the Sportshall Athletics competition, which were held at Broadway Badminton Centre.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, March 19, the school's Year 5/6 athletics team were victors in the Y5/6 Sportshall Athletics Merseyside School Games Final at Greenbank Sports Academy, in Liverpool. 

They managed to beat 15 other schools from across the region and it was Eccleston Mere's first ever appearance at a final.

As well as winning the Champions trophy, the Eccleston school also won the Spirit of the Games trophy for the way they conducted ourselves, which was voted for by the Year 10 helpers.

Eccleston Mere teacher and PE co-ordinator Gareth Helsby said: "We are incredibly proud of our recent successes in athletics.

"The children have been so dedicated to improving their own personal bests and their hard work has paid off.

"Eccleston Mere prides itself on its sporting offer - we have a great team of teachers and sports coaches that help us to provide sporting opportunities to all of our pupils".
