TV viewers up and down the country – and especially in St Helens – tuned in to watch Johnny Vegas’ latest season of Carry on Glamping.

There has been a lot of interest in the vehicles following the screening of the second series, which our own Thatto Heath born Johnny find another home for all his glamping vehicles.

We also saw him cause chaos alongside his PA Bev along the way.

There are a collection of vehicles on the new site which is at Melbourne Hall. So here is all you have to know about the site and the vehicles in case you want to book a stay.

The Vehicles

There are currently five vehicles to stay in at The Field of Dreams.

They are…

St Helens Star:

Oscar the Puma

Much of the second season told the story of this iconic helicopter.

Oscar The Puma served in Chile and Sierra Leone from 1970 until 2005 when he was retired from service and destined for a future in the Field of Dreams. Oscar’s transformation as a stunning glamping vehicle is designed by Johnny Vegas, with the restoration carried out by Stuart Abbott, of Stu-Art Aviation.

It has a fixed double bed, seating that converts to two singles, and a double sofa bed in the field tent attached – plus all the amenities you need for cooking, dining and relaxing.

Outside, Oscar has a roof deck and his own ground level decked area with table and seating, plus an outdoor fire pit.

Guest also have private use of Oscar’s own beautifully converted horse trailer bathroom.

Cost: £530 for 2 nights


The Skoolie

This iconic 1970s American School Bus transported children to school in Minnesota for many decades before coming to the UK. She is perfect for up to five people.

The restoration and interior design is by Jim Stuart, of Shred & Butta, and is a perfect combination of rustic reclaimed timber panel work and vintage touches, for a cosy and comfortable cabin feel.

Skoolie has a large double bed at the rear, and three single bunks. The front space includes a cool kitchen dining space, and she also has a fully tiled mosaic styled shower with beautiful hand-made copper pipe fittings.

The Skoolie has outdoor seating, table, and fire pit – perfect for BBQs, and her own beautifully converted horse trailer bathroom.

Guests are welcome to bring one dog with them for their stay at no extra charge.

The Citroen Camper

This striking 1960s French Citroen van is one of only thirteen ever made, characterised by her quirky detachable camper trailer. She is perfect for up to four people.

The Citroen’s sympathetic restoration is by Jim Stuart, of Shred & Butta, with her mellow interior created in a rustic style, with reclaimed wood and vintage touches.

She has two bunks and a seating area that converts easily into a double bed. An outside table and seating is positioned between the two sections of the van, and inside she has a fully kitted kitchenette.

The Citroen also has a spacious outside ‘glawning’ tent, with a large Chesterfield couch, seating, and a wood burning stove (with a stash of logs for your arrival and more available on site).

Outside you have your own outdoor fire pit, ideal for BBQs; and your own beautifully converted horse trailer bathroom.

Cost: £410 for 2 nights


Mahala the Boat of Dreams

Designed by Johnny Vegas, and restored by Jim Stuart, of Shred & Butta.

Discovered in a boatyard, she’s been given the ‘Field of Dreams’ treatment and transformed into a totally unique glamping vehicle, complete with a bathtub for guests.

Mahala has a fixed double bed, and has all amenities you need for cooking, dining and relaxing.

Outside, she has a table, seating, and a fire pit – perfect for BBQs or moonlit mood-setting – and her own beautifully converted horse trailer bathroom too.

Mahala even has a half boat swing on her deck.

Cost: £525 for 3 nights


Patricia the Maltese Bus

Patricia is named after Johnny’s mum and the upcycling story was featured in Season 1 of Johnny’s show.

The vehicle is a Maltese public transport bus, she was in working service from the 1960s until 2011 – and now is the perfect glamping host for up to four people.

She has been lovingly designed by Johnny Vegas, and reflects his amazing artistic flair and creativity, his love for vintage vehicles and was restored by Paulleo & Joe of Speedway Coachworks.

Patricia has a fixed double bed, and a seating area that converts easily into a double bed.

There is a fully kitted kitchen, her own WC, and a beautiful shower with tiles hand-made by Johnny, as well as many more of Johnny’s personal touches.

Patricia has outdoor bench seating, a table, and Lol’s Bar, named after Johnny’s Dad, which was designed by Steve & Hughie of Retro Chimps – a St Helens based brand.
