MOTORISTS are being warned of road closures that will be in place as works start to decommission a 100-year-old cattle creep.
Located approximately 600m west of Windle Island, Windle Farm Cattle Creep is a small, field-to-field access for farm animals which has not been in use for many years.
St Helens Council says "that it is reaching the end of its service life".
The council has consulted with ecologists and will be providing a 'fauna tunnel' to ensure the safety of small animals, such as hedgehogs, who may use the structure to get across the road.
For the continued safety of the highway network, work will be carried out from lane one of the East Lancs Road to fill the structure with foamed concrete from road level via holes drilled through the top of the structure.
