FIREFIGHTERS rushed to the motorway after a car burst into flames.

The incident happened on the M62 heading eastbound yesterday, Saturday, between junctions eight for Burtonwood and nine for Winwick at around 11.15am.

Two fire engines attended the incident from Penketh and Warrington fire stations.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews were called to extinguish an estate car well alight on the hard shoulder.

“They did so wearing breathing apparatus and using two hose reel water jets.

“There were no injuries and the driver and passengers were conveyed to the nearest services while firefighters ensured the vehicle was completely safe.”
