THREE Carmel College students have been selected as finalists for a prestigious Young Writers competition.

English students Aiden Hunt, Eryn McDonald, Aoife Britton-Cooke are finalists for the Frank Moran Young Writers Competition run by Liverpool Anthenaeum.

It attracts entrants from across the North West, aged between 16 and 19.

Students entered by submitting submit a piece of fiction or non-fiction writing on a subject they were passionate about.

The winner’s prize includes a year’s membership to the library and £1000 prize money.

Carmel’s three finalists attended a reception at The Athenaeum earlier this week where they enjoyed drinks and canapes, before having a tour of the ornate library.

The trio have until March 29 to submit their final task: a 1500-word piece of original prose on a subject determined by the competition judges.

They will attend a final reception at the Athenaeum on April 16 where the winner will be announced.

English Tutor Nick Williams said “I am extremely proud of all three of these amazing young writers. This is a prestigious competition with a fantastic prize, and any one of them would be a thoroughly deserving winner.

“Not only are they talented writers who are infectiously enthusiastic about the art of writing, they are also brilliant students all-round.”
