SEVEN Carmel College students are celebrating after receiving offers to study at either Oxford or Cambridge Universities.

The application process to study at Oxford and Cambridge is a rigorous one. As well as stringent entry requirements, the process itself is tough, requiring lots of dedication and preparation.

Carmel College offer the High Achievers+ Programme which encourages and supports students who are applying to Oxbridge and other competitive institutions, as well as for highly competitive degrees such as medicine, dentistry and veterinary science.

Students who have received offers to study at Oxford include:- Leanne Mabena (St Mary’s High School) – Medicine at Saint John’s College, Lewis Klieve (Aukland College) – Mathematics at Lady Margaret Hall and Jasmine Armstrong (Broughton Hall Catholic High School) – PPE at St Hilda’s College Lewis Klieve said: “I received lots of support from my Maths Tutor, Khilan. This included looking over and making suggestions on my personal statement, weekly entrance exam practice lessons, a mock interview and interview skills lessons. This help was extremely useful to me.”

Cambridge offers were received by:- Holly Atherton (Loreto Grammar School) – English at Churchill College, Shea Rainford (De La Salle) – Law at Sidney Sussex College, Jessica Maclean (Sts Peter & Paul Catholic High School) – Geography at Murray Edwards College and Oluwakemi Akeredolu (Hillside High School) – Law at Corpus Christi College Holly Atherton said: “I’m so grateful for the support college gave me. My HA+ Co-ordinator and subject tutors were always on-hand to read over my personal statement, my English Literature tutor helped me prepare for the online assessment and I was also offered two mock interviews; one in-person with tutors in the English department and the other online with an external English specialist. This was all invaluable when it came to applying.”

Head of the High Achievers+ Programme, Dan Saunders said: “The HA+ team are all really proud of the success of our students who will be progressing onto Oxbridge.

“This is the result of months of hard work and practice with the guidance of our fantastic HA+ Co-ordinators and subject staff. Congratulations!”
