REPAIRS remain ongoing after a power cut hit an area of St Helens yesterday.

Scottish Power said the issue was reported to them shortly before 11.30am and an engineer will be sent to fix the fault.

The power cut is affecting properties on Merton Bank Road and surrounding streets, around the Pocket Nook area. 

A Scottish Power statement said on Tuesday: "There is a power cut affecting the WA9 area of St Helens.

"We had no advance warning of this and first became aware of it at 11:28am. Our next available engineer will attend site to find and fix the fault as quickly and as safely as possible."

In an update, Scottish Power said the issue is with a fault on an underground cable network.

Specialist equipment has been installed in the local substation to help with the location of the fault so that a full repair can be made.

 A statement today read: "There is an unplanned power cut in the WA9 postcode area of St Helens. Engineers area aware of a fault in the area on our underground cable network and have installed specialist equipment in the local substation to help with the location of the fault so that a full repair can be made.

"They will work to get your power back on as quickly and as safely as possible by 11am. We will update this message if this information changes. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience."
